So I was playing Baldur’s Gate 3 last night, just minding my own business in the Underdark, when this stupid scrying eye spotted me. Again. If you’ve played BG3, you know exactly what I’m talking about. These floating metal eyeballs are everywhere, and they’re absolutely infuriating to deal with.
I’ve probably spent more time fighting these things than actual bosses at this point. Every time I think I’ve figured them out, they pull some new immunity nonsense that makes me want to throw my controller across the room.

The Problem Everyone’s Having
Here’s the thing that drives me crazy about scrying eyes – they seem almost impossible to kill sometimes. You’ll hit one with your best sword attack, maybe 25 damage, and it shows “0 damage.” What?!
I went online to see if other people were having this problem, and turns out basically everyone is. The forums are full of players complaining about the same thing. One person said they were doing 30+ damage per hit and it was still showing immune. That’s not normal, right?
The worst part is when you’re in Grymforge and that NPC literally tells you to “knife it.” So you do, and then he gets mad and attacks you! Like, buddy, you just told me to do that five seconds ago.
What Actually Works (Finally!)
After way too much trial and error, I’ve found a few things that actually work:
Just push the damn thing off a cliff. This is hands down the best method. Every area with scrying eyes has cliffs or chasms nearby. Walk up to the eye, use the shove action, and watch it fall to its doom. So satisfying.
I had Lae’zel throw one into that big chasm in Grymforge and it worked perfectly. No damage calculations, no resistances, just gravity doing its job.
Thunder spells are your friend. If you can’t find a cliff, Shatter works really well. Since scrying eyes are constructs, they take extra damage from thunder spells. I’ve one-shotted several eyes with a well-placed Shatter.
Thunderwave can work too, but it’s less reliable. Sometimes it kills them, sometimes it doesn’t. Stick with Shatter if you have it.
The Weird Save/Reload Thing
This one’s bizarre but it works. If you hit a scrying eye and it takes some damage, then everything after that does zero damage, save your game and reload. It fixes whatever bug is making the eye immune.
I don’t understand why this works, but I’ve seen tons of people confirm it. The game gets confused about the eye’s resistances or something, and reloading resets everything back to normal.
What Doesn’t Work (Save Yourself the Headache)
I’ve tried pretty much everything else:
- Regular weapons are useless most of the time. Even with good enchantments, the damage gets reduced to nothing.
- Fire and ice spells don’t do anything. The eyes are resistant to everything except thunder.
- Trying to blind them or go invisible doesn’t help with the core problem – you still can’t damage them properly.
Sneak attacks used to work in earlier versions, but now they’re way less effective. You might get lucky occasionally, but don’t count on it.
My Current Strategy
These days, whenever I see a scrying eye, I follow this simple plan:
- Look around for cliffs first. If there’s a ledge or pit nearby, I just push the eye right off. Problem solved in two seconds.
- If there’s no cliff, I check if anyone in my party has Shatter. Usually kills the eye in one cast.
- If I don’t have thunder spells and there’s no cliff, I honestly just run away sometimes. It’s not worth the frustration.
- If the eye seems completely immune to everything, I save and reload, then try again.
Why Are These Things So Broken?
I really think there’s something wrong with how scrying eyes work. The damage resistance system seems completely bugged. They’re supposed to be resistant to most damage types, not completely immune to everything.
Way too many players are having the exact same issues for this to be working as intended. Hopefully Larian fixes this in a future patch because right now these enemies are just annoying rather than challenging.
Final Thoughts
Look, scrying eyes are poorly designed enemies that cause more frustration than they’re worth. Don’t waste time trying to fight them “properly” because the system is probably broken anyway.
Find a cliff and push them off. If there’s no cliff, use thunder spells. Everything else is hit or miss at best.
The important thing is getting these floating metal jerks out of your way so you can actually enjoy the game. Trust me, once you start cliff-pushing every scrying eye you see, the Underdark becomes a much more pleasant place to explore.
