You should always keep your Kamado Egg BBQ wiped down with a dry cloth. After all, you want to maintain a nice shiny finish on your grill surface; otherwise, your food won’t look as good and you’ll lose some flavor. Even though a wet piece of cloth may seem like a smart idea at first, you probably shouldn’t do that too often because it could cause corrosion issues down the line! 2) Use A Good Oven Rack: As mentioned before, Kamado is going to cook food better than any other type of oven. However, just because it takes less space does not mean that you can get away with using your regular kitchen oven racks. While they work great for small batches of food, larger items like turkeys will fall off easily. Instead, we recommend using an oven rack specifically designed for Kamados. They usually cost around $20-$30 depending on the brand. But the money is well spent because it will last for a very long time. 3) Don’t Forget To Cook Your Food Right Away: When you’re cooking something on a hotplate, you generally only need to wait for a couple of minutes before serving. But when you’re cooking something on your Kamado, you need to let it sit for at least 15-20 minutes before serving. Why is that? Because you are dealing with a live steam atmosphere which means that the heat inside your Kamado Egg BBQ isn’t enough to kill bacteria and germs. That said, once the temperature inside reaches 250 degrees F, you can start cooking right away. 4) Make Sure That Your Kamado Is Ready Before Starting: As mentioned before, you need to wait until the temperature inside ceramic Egg BBQ reaches 200 degrees F to start cooking right away. However, sometimes, you might accidentally turn on your Kamado Egg BBQ without waiting long enough. So, make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to prepare your food before turning it on the burner. 5) Always Add Oil To Your Grill Surface: When cooking, the oil helps prevent sticking and keeps your food from burning up. There are three different types of oils you can choose from olive oil, vegetable oil, and peanut oil. Since everyone reacts differently, some people prefer one over another. But basically, you want to add 1/4 cup of oil to each side of your grill. 6) Always Properly Season Your Meat: One of the biggest mistakes that new Kamado users make is seasoning their meat incorrectly. By “seasoning”, we mean adding salt and pepper. All you need to do is sprinkle some salt and black pepper onto your meat and grill it for 8-15 seconds per side. It sounds pretty straightforward, but unfortunately, you are reading my website and not watching TV, so you probably missed out on countless commercials telling you how to properly season meat. 7) Be Careful With Your Temperature Gauge: Many people think that their Kamado Egg BBQ has reached the proper temperature once the dial shows 200 degrees F. This is not true! You have to wait until the gauge reads 250 degrees F before you can safely place anything into the cooker. If you stick something in there earlier than that or leave it in there longer than necessary, you run the risk of ruining your meal. Also, don’t be afraid to pull your Kamado out occasionally during the cooking process. Sometimes, you may notice that your food needs more heat (or less heat). In this case, simply remove the lid and adjust the knobs accordingly. 8) Do Not Let The Temperature Go Below 140 Degrees F: Depending on where you buy your Kamado, you might be able to control the internal temperature of your cookers. For example, if you bought Ceramic Egg BBQ, then you should be fine as long as the temperature never goes below 140 degrees F. But if you purchased your Kamado elsewhere, then you will probably have no choice but to use an external thermometer to check the internal temperature of your Kamado. 9) Keep A Watchful Eye On Your Knob Settings: Like many other Kamados, the temperature controls on our Kamado are located right next to the power switch. And while they are easy to access, they also represent the most important part of your Kamado. Therefore, you should always keep them clean, dry, and well-maintained. Unfortunately, like all things, even the best things break down eventually. If your knobs stop working, just replace the parts, and you’ll get back quickly to cooking again. 10) Don’t Overfill Your Cooker: While it’s tempting to fill a Kamado Egg BBQ with charcoal at first, you shouldn’t go overboard with it. Most Kamados have vents on top of the cooker which allow smoke to escape. Because of this, filling your Kamado with too much charcoal could cause excess smoke to spill over and ruin your food. Instead, fill only about halfway full when you’re starting. Conclusion There is no doubt that the Kamado grill market is growing every year. With the wide array of features available, especially since the introduction of the Kamado Egg BBQ, it is hard to find someone who does not recommend the versatile cooker to others. No matter what kind of cooking style you enjoy, whether you love grilling, searing, smoking, roasting, baking, braising, sautéing, stewing, boiling, slow cooking, or any combination thereof, you can find something for yourself in the diverse options now available. Whether you want to take advantage of gas or charcoal, you can easily convert between the two without having to purchase a whole new set of tools. So, why wait?
